Dean and Zoe

Cousin Dean and Zoe have just arrived.  Will be great hanging out with them for the next few days before heading back to Bangkok on the 1st.  Spent today out and about on the scooters eating and swimming.  Very relaxing.  More so the yesterday when we went on a cruise to islands in the near by Ao Thong national park.  We had a 2 and a half hour return journey in very rough seas.  Got tossed around and felt lucky to get to dry land in one piece in the dark.

Elephant trekking planned for Beth's birthday tomorrow.

I'll post more photos soon.  Once again on the hunt for a computer that recognizes our camera!

Merry Christmas from Thailand

Hope everyone has a great Christmas at home and overseas.  Ed and Beth hope that Santa can find his way to our wee island tonight and don't think the day will be quite the same.  Meg's gutted she can find Christmas pudding anywhere but we have booked in to an 'authentic' English Pub for dinner tomorrow (should be interesting!).  Festive wishes to all

Having fun on the beaches

Hi all sorry for not posting for a while.  Have made it down south to the beaches around Krabi.  Truly stunning spots. Have enjoyed lots of swimming and some good and not so good food.  Today was mum and dads turn to be ill after Beth and Ed had a turn in Nepal.   Me and the kids have headed to the beach and internet cafe while Meg rests up.  Still having trouble finding a place that will let me upload photo, will try the next place down the road after tea.

In Bangkok

Have made It to Bangkok now. Staying in a nice hotel which is a change from the last few weeks.  Ed and Beth enjoyed a day in the pool today and a little shopping. Jimmy sorted out visas for Vietnam and train tickets south to the beaches on Saturday.  We're all out and about tomorrow for a good look around.  Lots more photos coming tomorrow.

Finished trekking

We have just finished trekking we got up to Annapurna base camp at 4130 metres that's about half the size of Mount Everest and higher than Mount Cook from Beth and Ed!

Out of the mountains

We finished trekking yesterday (11 days in total). Lots of amazing sites and a family achievement getting all the way to base camp.  Ed and Beth were a real novelty on the trails, by far the youngest Trekkers.  They were constantly stopped by locals and other Trekkers to talk and have their photos taken.  A number of people where really surprised they made it all the way and carried their own packs.  Most trekkers had porters and guides.  Some of the younger male travellers looked a bit deflated when they saw two young children charging up the hill.

I think we'll all be happy not to see another stone stair case for a while.  Meg couldn't understand why  all the villages and lodges were built on the top of hills which required a steep decent into a valley before ascending again.  All a little disheartening when you could look straight across from one village to the next.

We stayed in some really lovely tea houses.  Our favourite being Chhomrong Cottage where we could order chocolate cake, a nice difference from the standard menus available at all the other guest houses.

The mountains themselves were a sight to behold up close.  The scale is very difficult to capture in the photos.  At ABC we were surrounded on all sides by scoring peaks.  I've included a few videos and pictures below.  There are more to come when we get to Thailand ( Internet is very slow over here, took 3 hours to up load these).  I've also added some early photos from Bhaktapur.  We now have about a week until we leave for Bangkok so are investigating heading down South to a wildlife park before finishing our time here with a few days in the madness of Kathmandu.

Meg has been having more luck posting to Facebook straight from her phone.  She happy to take new friend requests (Meg Justice).

That's all from me.  I'll get Ed and Beth to post their thoughts.

Cheers Jim
