Visit to the Reunification palace

Our last Day was spent visiting the Reunnification Palace and shopping.  The palace was stunning.  Amazing architecture and totally untouched since the 70s.  One of the best tours we've done on the trip!  See below for more information and links from Wikipedia extract (plus our photos)

Independence Palace (Dinh Độc Lập), also known as Reunification Palace (VietnameseDinh Thống Nhất), built on the site of the former Norodom Palace, is a landmark inHo Chi Minh CityVietnam. It was designed by architect Ngô Viết Thụ and was the home and workplace of the President ofSouth Vietnam during the Vietnam War. It was the site of the end of the Vietnam War during the Fall of Saigon on April 30, 1975, when a North Vietnamese Army tank crashed through its gates.

Cu Chi Tunnels

Just back from a tour of the Cu Chi Tunnels.  Very interesting and ye opening.  Beth, Ed and Jimmy managed to crawl through a 100meter tunnel.

The tunnels of Củ Chi are an immense network of connecting underground tunnels located in the Củ Chi district of Ho Chi Minh City(Saigon), Vietnam, and are part of a much larger network of tunnels that underlie much of the country. The Củ Chi tunnels were the location of several military campaigns during the Vietnam War, and were the Viet Cong's base of operations for the Tết Offensive in 1968.
The tunnels were used by Viet Cong soldiers as hiding spots during combat, as well as serving as communication and supply routes, hospitals, food and weapon caches and living quarters for numerous North Vietnamese fighters. The tunnel systems were of great importance to the Viet Cong in their resistance to American forces, and helped to counter the growing American military effort.

Our last few days

Under a week to go and have hit Ho Chi Minh City.  It happens to be the time they celebrate Tet (Luna New Year).  On the positive side that has meant we've been able to join the celebrations.  On the other hand lots of shops and sites are now shut for the next 5 days.  Have managed to arrange a tour of the Viet Cong tunnels from the war and will spend tomorrow at the big water park just out of the city.  I'm sure we'll find lots more to do.  Off now to find something eat.  Great street food here!

What's up?

Tomorrow is our last day in Hoi An before catching the over night train down the coast for a few days of beach time.  We plan to hit Ho Chi Min City on the 30th just before the start of Tet celebrations (Vietnam New Years!).  Loving Vietnam especially the street food.
